Handmade Easter Ornament #2

Welcome back!

I'd like to introduce you to Petunia.  She's a very special friend of Peter Cottontails.  

Would you love to have her in your home too?

If you said yes, then you're in luck.  Below is the step by step tutorial to making your very own for CHEAP!!  I'm sure all of you have the necessary supplies just sitting around your house.  

Let's get started... 

Do you use the sponge paint brushes sometimes?  If so, they fall apart. Don't throw them away.  Rip off the sponge and save the stick and plastic piece.  Here I've used the stick as the body of these bunnies. I'll find a good use for the plastic pieces another day.  Also, again, each of my handmade ornaments will be using these CHEAP (no pun intended) Dollar Store plastic eggs.

 

Attach them together with hot glue.

The toilet paper rolls are not part of the body. They work great for holding things while they dry.

Have old material scraps laying around your house? An old shirt you won't wear again? Cut out a square big enough to cover the egg and glue the ends around the stick. This is supposed to look country/vintage shabby chic, so imperfections are perfect.  It shouldn't look nice and neat (at least not for these.)   *NOTE* The second picture with the Q-tip is my way of  showing you where you want to draw the face.  Where the Q-tip is, is where you'll glue the whiskers (Snip some bristles off of a broom) (UNDER) a fold of material. That way the glue is hidden and looks like they are sticking right out of the face.

 SO..draw the face between two folds. :)

 

Time for the ears!

Picture on the left shows how I glued the ears to the head.  Picture on the right...all attached :)

 

The ball of twine is not the body I'm using.  I just had the sticks stuck in there to hold it upright to work on. However, after looking at...that would be a cute body. Maybe attach a little puff of cotton on the back for a tail?? Just a thought...

Now it's time to age the bunnies with Tea Dye Distress ink purchased at The Funkie Junkie Boutique and a spritz of water.

Time to draw Peter and Petunia's faces.

Let The Easter Tree Begin....

Hello, hello, hello!!

I made it official yesterday. I finally took the Christmas wreath off the front door!

  I'm finding myself seasonally challenged of late. The door with the wreath, the tree still has Valentine ornaments on it and outside a miracle was performed and the temps rose above 60! 

It's still not officially Spring yet, so I won't get my hopes up that old man winter is done with his nasty tricks, but in any case, the tree will be up to date and ready for Easter.

Painted & Decoupaged Nicecrane

Flowers From Vintage Books

They started out as pink plastic eggs from The Dollar Store.

First round was stickles in a flourish pattern for a little texture and framing for the flowers.

Next came the painting...

All three painted!

Then flowers applied and then crackle applied.

Birds nest with twine, shredded brown bag and a little moss.

All inspired by the wonderful talent of Ignacio's shop

And here I got them all to smile for a closeup.

I managed to finish these all at the butt-crack of dawn because now daylight savings is having its way with me. I cannot. I repeat CANNOT stand Springing forward. 

I know I sound grumpy..I'm really not..I just need SLEEPY!!!  Lol.

I decided I'd make a small collage that showcased most of his images.  

Here is the centerpiece I created.

Another pair of Nicecrane Design birds perched on a swing branch.

2 other sets of the collage. 

The collage consists of 9 individual handmade canvases that each measure 4.5" x 3.5"

Newspaper on the left with silhouettes and my attempt at mixed media on the right.

The final collage all put together.

Such a peaceful scenery and perfect for my anticipation of Spring and warmth!!

I May Have a Little Problem....

According to Webster's Dictionary a hobby implies "an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure."  Similarly, an addiction is referred to as "the condition of being habitual, dedicated, or devoted to a substance, thing, or activity"....

Are you seeing where I'm going with this???

It was like the time we got our dehydrator and I couldn't stop extracting the moisture from food.   Apples, bananas, grapes, pineapple, deer meat, green beans, mango, turkey, mushrooms.  Well, you get the idea.  It was so insane, the family staged an intervention and turned me on to rotisserating instead.  OMG...love that machine too!

   I really thought I had myself under control. 

 I wasn't going to fall victim again. No more weaknesses.

I'm strong, dangit.  I'm strong!!

And then there was Regina....  

She came out with these new cut files that sent my salivary glands into overload and as soon as I downloaded the files, I was a flower making fool for DAYS!!

I actually went to bed one night at 9:30 and was up at midnight because I couldn't stop thinking about the endless possibilities.  Stayed up the whole night and all the next day, cutting, crimping, distressing, folding, gluing and having a blast!

I'm proud to say that I was able to reign in my obsessive compulsive behavior and call it quits (for now anyway) at 22 sheets of flowers.

Oh but where to keep some of these cuties??

YEAH...it's recycling and repurpose time!!

 Mod Podge did the task of disguising this Dell box with vintage sheet music and a die cut flourish I cut on the Silhouette cutter that aided in showing off this groovy glass knob I received from a blog buddy Mitra.

Next a painting of Gesso applied and then some groovy leaves from the cutting machine and a few swipes of Washi tape for decor.

I added some of the gorgeous flowers from my latest and greatest addiction, The Cutting Cafe, and then a fabulous clock piece from another very sweet blog buddy. :)

Here's a view of the backside where I cut out hinges on the Silhouette machine and then added pearls.  The original box lid covered the entire base box, but by cutting the back section off and making a few adjustments, I now have a box that opens on hinges.

The Cutting Cafe

Gotham Baby Blocks

 Hello, hello, hello!!

I just finished making my project for The Cutting Cafe and I had the terrific help of my son too.

Here is Fun With Blocks and our creation.

This started out with the blocks spelling Grayson and when my son walked into the room I had a giraffe standing by the G, a rainbow over the R and etc...you know, all cutsie for a baby boy, but....

that's when he explained to me that they are naming their son Grayson after the character Dick Grayson aka Robin from the movie Batman.

 SO....

All the cutsie stuff came off and this became the replacement creation.

Even includes the Riddler's question mark

Does't Robin look so dashing as a super-hero sidekick sitting on this superb block?

Nothing like having to dismantle a project 1/2 way through, but the time was well spent with the boy and I think we ended up making a cute room decor for little Grayson.

Will you?

I can't feel my toes and my spine feels like fluid.  Can you take one guess what I've been doing? Shoveling!!

 Winter is definitely here and in one day I've already met my personal quota of snow! 

Honest, I'm good...Spring can sprung anytime!! 

A little reprieve from the cold and something that warms my heart is this beautiful cut file from Regina's Cutting Cafe called Valentine Window Card Tops and I've included her wonderful Feb 14 sentiment as well.

I'm late posting this, but there was the issue of frozen fingers trying to type...
