Stop!! Don't Throw That Away...

If crafting has taught me anything, it's shown me how to look at items I would normally discard or recycle with a whole new light. Which is why I am grateful for this week's challenge over at
Our Creative Corner, because now I get to downsize my "don't throw that away, I'll use it for something else" pile in my craft closet.  Thanks to Kim Price, the hilarious and resourceful crafter, for hosting this week's theme....
RECYCLE IT and use the color GREEN!
This is my recessed window frame that has a stand on the back so it can sit anywhere on display.
Going along with the theme of recycling, I decided to look at some old Paper Craft Magazines I also have piling up and drew my inspiration from this issue.  July/August 2011, page 24, titled Fanatical About Botanical.
The frame, backboard and stand are made using two of these recycled flatbread wrapping packages, a thin but sturdy cardboard.
I've also used this old calendar for the bow, the sentiment and the two flowers in a vase.

 A few extra close-ups
The image I've colored in with copics is titled

These are glorious little vintage images that can be purchased at
 Here's a close-up of the image
I really enjoyed using recycled products but I also needed to complete the task by using a pop of green.  As you can see here, the background image is mainly colored with variations of green, the leaves overhanging are inked with green and little speckles of white, the faux wood frame has smudges of green in the wood as well.  A little green vase sits on the ledge of the window alongside some green moss to give the image more depth and the frame more texture.

I certainly hope this challenge inspires you and and as always, the DT ladies are continually coming up with tons of crafty, creative and out of the box originality, so be sure to stop in and enjoy all of their creations at...
RECYCLE IT and use the color GREEN

Thank you so much for stopping in.
Hugs n' Happy Stamping...

Another beautiful example of your attention to detail, Lisa. Your frame is wonderful and I really love the window sill with the vase of flowers. The image is delightful and that checkered bow is sensational. What a super piece you have created for our recycle challenge!

Thanks so much for the gorgeous soup recipe. I knew right away it was American as I didn't recognise some of the ingredients but I will google and try and substitute them over here in Ireland. It sounds delicious! Thanks for taking time to type it out for me. Hugs

Hello Q
When I read Kim's Challenge-'Recycle It', I knew you would produce a brilliant creation, and when I saw it posted up I was not disappointed, you do set the bar high Q. This framed window has all the wonderful details that go a long way to revealing what you like and enjoy about your Art.
It has panache, which comes natural to you and is distinctive in much of your work especially when you are not too restricted. The capacity you have to create such pieces is in your perception to view things off-beat. I know I have nick-named you Quirks and I hope you realise this is meant as a complement, not to be confused with bizarre or peculiar; more toward unique and individualistic and so original.
To use a Nicecrane image as your focus and colour it up so wonderfully would make a lovely card, but you push the boundaries of scale and design with this craft to produce a work of Art!
A fantastic creation.
Smiles:)

L2,
Ingenius as always! You are such a clever girl and I'm laughing hysterically right now. (which isn't amusing to my grandcat sleeping on my legs because I'm shaking him so hard) Why? I have my family saving everything these days (i.e. cardboard from pasta/cereal boxes, the mesh from lemon & potato bags, foil scraps, etc...) and my stash is taking over my craft room. They roll their eyes at me and just groan. hehehe Ok, now to my point. This recycled, re-purposed project is gorgeous and I can use it to prove my case for recycling. You never know what you are going to need UNTIL you need it. :D Fab job on this frame and I love the sweet image by Nicecrane Designs.
Kudos to you my friend, well done indeed!
Hugs,
L1

Lisa, as I read your post, I can totally relate to your blogging. The closet in my crafting room, is full of items that I couldn't throw away, because I could do something with them {smile}. It's nice to have a sister who understands.
I love how you showed us your creative process. Absolutely delightful! And that is how I feel about your recessed picture frame. The materials all work, so well together! and your coloring is spot on! I love finding all the little treasures.
You created a fabulous paper craft and I know our readers can find a lot of inspiration from you!

Whooda thunk a piece of cardboard and an old calendar could turn into something so lovely! The faux wood grain is awesome and you did an amazing job coloring the image! Wonderful repurposing!

I need to do this a lot more... My 'don't throw that away' pile is getting a little out of control!
