Earring Box Becomes Business Card Holder

Fun, Fun, Fun!
That's all I have to say about this project...
 It started out like this
And evolved to this by covering the exterior of the box parts with My Mind's Eye paper (Portobello Road and Market Street)with Mod Podge and then lining the insides with Mod Podge and tissue paper.  I then used the Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint Resist Technique found here.
I used Picket Fence Crackle Paint for the first layer.  Then inked with TH Vintage Photo and as I only have 2 distress inks, I substituted the process with Stampin' Up Ink using Old Olive, Brocade Blue and More Mustard and then applied over all of that, more Vintage Photo DI.
Then using Stazon Ink I stamped into the top and bottom sections using Stampin' Ups! Established Elegance stamps.  Once this was done, I completed the TH technique by spritzing it all with water and wiping it down exposing the crackles and absorbed ink inside.  The edges of the boxes were also touched up with the assorted colors as well.
Now for the embellishing part.  The front flourish and the little angel were both gold and way to bright so I've pressed them into Versamark and applied Opaque Finish embossing powder.  A light sanding over the top of them and then a coat of Vintage Distress Ink to complete their look.

The wings I designed out of  Sculpey clay then baked them in the oven at 275 degrees for 15 minutes.  I've distressed them with Vintage DI, spritzed them with water and then sporadically sprinkled more Opaque Finish embossing powder to them.
The final step was gluing on the little wooden knobs for feet.

Finally I measured a faux business card to sit inside as an example.
I really hope you like this project and decide to save ALL those jewelry boxes!!

Thank you so much for stopping in to visit...
Have a great one.
Hugs n' Happy Crafting,
Lisa xx

Hi Quirks
Wonderful 'over the top and ridiculously excessive, it is a gargantuan project, and I really don't care one little bit that you did not use TH inks, the upshot is that you have made a fantastic piece of work from a mere box, it is impressive with it's oversized elements and texture; nobody would call it dainty!
It is very funky Quirks, but amazing as well.
Thank you so much for joining us this week again; you are a wonderful supporter of our Challenges at OCC we really do appreciate this very much.
Smiles:)

Another amazingly inventive project from the crafty mind of Lisa Minckler. LOL That was my infomercial voice in case you didn't catch that. ;-)
You really have a gift for turning trash into treasure. I have tons of jewelry boxes around here and have played around a bit with the clay but not to this extent. I'd like to find some molds I really like. Your wings look great and I love how you toned down the angel and flourish so they match so well. Awesome project T! Hugs! H

Wow, who knew that the lowly jewellery box could look so fabulous. Just amazing!!!
Thought I would share the recipe for the dumplings on here - so if anyone else wants to try it they are welcome to.
CaramelDumplings - Serves 4
Dumpling ingredients
1 1/4 cup Self Raising Flour
1/3 cup sugar
pinch salt,
1 tspn vanilla essence
30g (1 oz) butter
1/3 cup milk ( you may have to add a splash more)
Sift flour and salt, rub in butter, add sugar. Add combined milk and vanilla. Stir well until combined.
Sauce - Combine 30g (1 oz) butter, 1 1/2 cups Brown sugar (firmly packed), pinch salt, 1 1/2 cups water in a large saucepan, stir until boiling reduce heat.
Drop tablespoons of dough into simmering sauce, cover, simmer 20 minutes.
Serve warm with cream. You can whip the cream if you want.
It is very sweet so you don't need huge serves.
Hope you enjoy it,
Sandy

If you had not shown the before pictures, I would have never guessed that your gorgeous creation started out as such a lowly box! This is beautiful and I love that it is also such a functional piece for promoting your artwork as well! Love the decorative piece on the front of the box! Thanks for inspiring all of us to create without boundaries!

This is amazing. It is like a magic trick - watch me turn this new cardboard box into a vintage one of a kind treasure! I can't believe it is the same box! Tim Holtz would be in awe of you girl! I'm still scratching my head like "how'd she do that?" On my first glimpse I thought it was a treasure you found in an antique shop - AMAZING!
